Exporting a dog or cat to Australia is a detailed process and usually takes at least 6 months. We can guide you through the veterinary and certification requirements from start to finish.

1. Microchip & Rabies Vaccination
Your pet must be correctly microchipped and have a valid rabies vaccination.
2. OV66 Identity Checks
To qualify for the reduced 10-day Australian quarantine, your pet must complete two identity checks with two different OV66-authorised vets from separate practices before the rabies blood test.
3. Rabies Blood Test (RNATT)
Blood is taken to confirm adequate rabies antibody levels. A minimum waiting period of approximately 180 days applies before travel.
4. Australian Import Permit
Once the required documentation is ready, an import permit is applied for through the Australian authorities.
5. Pre-Export Treatments & Tests
Depending on whether you are exporting a dog or cat, additional parasite treatments, blood tests and health checks may be required shortly before travel.
6. Export Health Certificate (EHC)
A final veterinary examination and official Export Health Certificate are completed before departure.
7. Travel to Melbourne & Quarantine
Pets travel as manifested cargo to Melbourne and enter the Mickleham quarantine facility. Correctly completed OV66 identity checks can reduce the minimum quarantine period from 30 days to 10 days.
